EPFO interest update: When will 8.25% EPF interest be credited to subscribers’ accounts?

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation’s Central Board of Trustees (CBT), in March 2026, notified that it retained the interest rate on EPF at 8.25% for the previous financial year. Over two months have passed, and the interest payment has not yet been credited.

Here’s a look at what the notification says, when the money will be credited and how to check the status.

The notification from the Ministry of Labour and Employment read, “After due deliberations, CBT recommended 8.25% annual rate of interest to be credited on EPF accumulations in members’ accounts for the financial year 2025-26.”

When is the interest amount likely to be credited?

The process is not as simple. Once the EPF interest rate is announced, it must be formally approved by the government. After that, EPFO reconciles accounts and updates the records of millions of subscribers before crediting the interest.

As all this takes time, EPFO has not announced any specific date for crediting the interest.

How can you check if EPF interest has been credited?

EPF interest, once credited, will appear in your EPF balance and passbook. There are a number of ways using which you may confirm whether interest has been paid towards your account for a fiscal year or not. Members can check their balance through:

UMANG AppEPFO Member e-Sewa portalMissed call on 9966044425 (for UAN-linked mobile numbers)SMS to 7738299899 by sending: UAN EPFOHO ENG

Ensure your UAN is active and linked with Aadhaar, PAN and bank account details to access EPF balance information. EPF members should also typically check for the last entry which in the case of interest credit would reflect like this- “Int. Updated up to 31/03/2026”.

How the EPFO 3.0 works?

EPFO 3.0 is a digital modernisation initiative designed to streamline PF services and reduce processing delays. The proposed upgrade will allow employees to withdraw or transfer provident fund money instantly through digital channels, eliminating the need for physical paperwork and lengthy verification procedures.

With EPFO 3.0, members will be able to check their eligible balance on the UMANG app, generate a QR code to securely transfer EPF money directly to their bank accounts, and withdraw funds instantly through a UPI-enabled ATM or via direct UPI transfer.

Withdrawals of up to ₹5 lakh will be settled instantly without the need for employer approval, making the process faster, simpler, and fully digital.
