Facebook privacy settlement payments begin from June 9: Eligibility, how much you will get

Some Facebook users who were part of the $725 million privacy settlement are set to receive a second round of payments starting this month. However, the additional payout is not available to everyone.

The second distribution is expected to begin on June 9 and will be sent out in batches over the next four weeks. According to NBC Chicago, eligible recipients may receive an email notification three to four days before their payment is issued.

Only settlement class members who successfully cashed their first check or accepted their initial digital payment will qualify for the second payout. Those who missed the original claim deadline in 2023 are not eligible to apply or receive payment in this round.

Who is eligible for the second payment?

The settlement covers Facebook users in the United States who had an active account between May 24, 2007, and December 22, 2022. To be eligible, users must have submitted a valid claim by the August 25, 2023 deadline, which has now passed.

The additional payout was approved by a California federal court after funds remained from the initial distribution. These leftover funds came from uncashed checks, expired digital payments, and money remaining after legal fees and administrative expenses were deducted.

According to the settlement website, around 15.7 million people who successfully cashed or accepted their first settlement payment will automatically qualify for this second round. No further action is required, and eligible recipients will receive an email before their payment is sent.

How much money will people receive?

The exact amount of the second Facebook settlement payment has not yet been disclosed.

The final payout will depend on how much money remains from uncashed checks, expired digital payments, and other leftover settlement funds, as well as the number of eligible recipients.

While the amount is still unknown, it is expected to be lower than the first-round payment, which averaged about $29.43 per claimant. Eligible users will receive their share automatically once the redistribution process begins.

How to check if you’ve received the payment

The second round of Facebook settlement payments is scheduled to begin on June 9 and will be distributed over the following four weeks. Eligible recipients will receive an email notification around three to four days before their payment is issued.

Those who selected a digital payment method, such as PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, direct deposit, or a prepaid debit card, can monitor their account statements for a payment notification.

If you are unsure about your eligibility or payment status, you can contact the settlement administrator using your claim ID number. Queries can be sent to info@facebookuserprivacysettlement.com.
