FIIs purchased securities worth ₹13,259.03 crore and sold securities worth ₹11,665.50 crore during the session. Domestic institutional investors (DIIs) also remained net buyers, with net purchases of ₹230.26 crore. DIIs bought securities worth ₹14,280.18 crore and sold securities worth ₹14,049.92 crore.
On Monday, FIIs were net buyers to the tune of ₹1,181.66 crore, while DIIs purchased equities worth ₹2,493.41 crore.
Indian equity benchmarks also ended higher on Tuesday, with the Sensex rising 287 points to 77,656 and the Nifty gaining 116 points to 24,335. The Nifty ended the August series 1.5% higher at a two-week high, helped by a sharp recovery in the final hour of trade.
The Nifty gained more than 200 points from the day’s lows, with ICICI Bank, Reliance Industries and Larsen & Toubro among the top contributors. More than 35 Nifty stocks closed higher, while Adani Enterprises and Max Healthcare were among the top gainers.
The Nifty Bank slipped 12 points to 57,514, while the Nifty Midcap index rose 346 points to 64,163. Market breadth, however, favoured declines, with the advance-decline ratio at 4:5.
Among individual stocks, Shriram Finance and IndiGo gained around 2% each, supported by favourable moves in the rupee and crude oil prices. Vodafone Idea surged 8% on healthy volumes.
Paytm closed above ₹1,700 per share for the first time in nearly five years, ending 6% higher. Angel One, IREDA, Laurus Labs and Indus Towers were among the top midcap gainers. IREDA saw a sharp move in the final hour of trade to close 5% higher.
Federal Bank fell 3% amid reports that the lender may acquire a majority stake in Jana Small Finance Bank. Hindustan Zinc slipped 2% despite DIPAM Secretary saying there would be no offer for sale in the near term.
Hindustan Copper declined 7% after the government’s offer for sale (OFS), with the non-OFS portion fully subscribed.
