IPO boom: These stocks doubled on debut. Where do they stand now?


Several initial public offering (IPOs) over the past five years have delivered more than 100% gains on listing day, doubling investors’ money almost instantly. But the performance since then has been far more mixed, with some stocks extending their gains while others have given up most of their listing-day rally.

Shares of Tempsens Instruments made a blockbuster debut in 2026, listing at ₹634 — a 111% premium over its issue price of ₹300 per share. The stock, however, has lost 9% from its listing price and is currently trading at ₹576.55.

Mamata Machinery made one of the strongest IPO debuts of 2024, listing at ₹600, a 147% premium over its issue price of ₹243. Since then, the stock has declined 33% from its listing price. It was trading 1% lower at ₹400.70 on Friday.

Vibhor Steel Tubes led the bumper debuts in 2024, listing at ₹442 – an 181.5% premium over its issue price of ₹151. The stock has since lost 75% from its listing price and was trading 1% lower at ₹111.90.

BLS E-Services more than doubled investors’ money on debut in 2024, listing at ₹305, a 126% premium over its issue price of ₹135. Unlike several other bumper debutants, the stock has held above its listing price and is up 7% since listing. It was trading 4% higher at ₹325.90.

Premier Energies also delivered a strong debut in 2024, listing at ₹990, a 120% premium over its issue price of ₹450. The stock has gained around 2% from its listing price and was trading 1.05% higher at ₹1,010.50.

KNR Heat Exchanger has been one of the biggest post-listing winners among the stocks that doubled investors’ money on debut. The stock listed at ₹480 in 2024, an 118% premium over its issue price of ₹220. It has since rallied another 230% from its listing price and was trading 3.04% higher at ₹1,582.10.

Unicommerce eSolutions listed at ₹235 in 2024, an 117% premium over its issue price of ₹108. However, the stock has since fallen 64% from its listing price and was trading 0.49% higher at ₹84.41.

Bajaj Housing Finance made its debut in 2024 at ₹150, delivering a 114% premium over its issue price of ₹70. The stock has since declined 43% from its listing price and was trading 0.34% lower at ₹85.04.

Tata Technologies was the only mainboard IPO in 2023 to double investors’ money on listing day, debuting at ₹1,200 — a 140% premium over its issue price of ₹500. The stock has since declined 30% from its listing price and was trading 4.50% higher at ₹835.35.

Sigachi Industries delivered the biggest listing-day gain in this group, debuting in 2021 at ₹570 — a staggering 253% premium over its issue price of ₹163. The stock has since lost 94% from its listing price and was trading 2.12% higher at ₹33.20.

According to Prime Database data as of August 25, 40 newly listed stocks were trading above their IPO issue prices, while 36 remained above their respective listing prices. Meanwhile, 13 stocks were trading below their issue prices and 17 were below their listing prices.

Among the strongest performers, three stocks — Omnitech Engineering, SEDEMAC Mechatronics and Shadowfax Technologies – have more than doubled from both their IPO issue prices and listing prices.

Interestingly, Omnitech Engineering and Shadowfax Technologies both made weak debuts, listing below their respective issue prices, before staging a strong post-listing rally.
