The board approved Kumar’s appointment as an Additional Director in the capacity of Managing Director and CEO, as well as a key managerial personnel, at its meeting on August 28.
Kumar will remain in the role for as long as he is deputed to LIC Housing Finance as a nominee director of Life Insurance Corporation of India, subject to a maximum tenure of five years. The appointment is not liable to retirement by rotation.
The appointment is subject to shareholder approval at the next general meeting or within three months from the date of appointment, whichever is earlier.
Kumar has spent more than three decades with LIC, having joined the insurer in 1991 as a direct recruit officer. He holds a master’s degree in mathematics from the University of Delhi.
During his career at LIC, Kumar has held several marketing and administrative roles, including Branch Manager in Bikaner, Senior Branch Manager and Chief Manager in Delhi Division-II and Vadodara, and Marketing Manager in Nadiad and Ahmedabad.
He also served as Senior Divisional Manager in charge of the Nadiad and Delhi-III divisions, Secretary (Marketing) for LIC’s Northern Zone and Chief Personnel at the insurer’s central office.In 2025, Kumar was appointed Director and CEO of LIC HFL Financial Services Ltd., Mumbai, after being elevated to the Zonal Manager Selection Cadre.
LIC Housing Finance said Kumar had confirmed that he meets the National Housing Bank’s fit-and-proper criteria for appointment to the board and is not barred from holding a directorship by SEBI or any other authority.
