Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran has tendered his resignation and will complete his current term but will not seek reappointment, sources told CNBC-TV18 on Wednesday, August 12.
The development comes amid uncertainty over his reappointment at the Tata Sons annual general meeting (AGM).
In July 2025, a resolution on extending Chandrasekaran’s chairmanship had set two conditions for renewal: Tata Sons must remain unlisted, and a solution must be found for the SP Group’s stake in the holding company, which requires liquidity.
A February meeting had deferred the renewal and instead taken up the turnaround of five Tata Group companies, including Air India and Tata Digital.Chandrasekaran’s resignation had emerged as one possible outcome amid a lack of quorum on his reappointment as a director.
