RITES Q1 Results: Profit rises 8% despite softer margins; declares dividend

RITES bags ₹175 crore project management consultancy order from Ambedkar University

RITES Ltd. began FY27 on a steady note, reporting higher revenue and profit for the June quarter on Tuesday, while continued momentum in its international business and turnkey projects reinforced its long-term growth strategy.

The state-owned railway consultancy and engineering company posted a 7.7% rise in net profit to ₹98 crore, compared with ₹91 crore a year earlier. Revenue increased 8.6% to ₹532 crore, while EBITDA remained largely unchanged at ₹114 crore. Operating margin moderated to 21.5% from 23.4% in the corresponding quarter last year.

Following the earnings announcement, RITES shares were trading at ₹216.81 on the National Stock Exchange, down around 1.1% during the afternoon session.

The company’s board also declared a first interim dividend of ₹1.40 per share for FY27. Shareholders on record as of 10 August will be eligible for the payout, which is scheduled to be completed on or before 2 September.

While the June-quarter numbers reflected measured growth, management’s broader focus remains on expanding its international footprint. That strategy received another boost in July, when RITES secured a $35.82 million export order from South Africa-based Volantis Asset Finance (Pty) Ltd. to supply and commission 4,000 HP Cape Gauge diesel-electric locomotives. The contract is expected to be executed over a 20-month period.

The order adds to a strengthening overseas pipeline that management has repeatedly highlighted as a key growth driver. Earlier this year, Chairman and Managing Director Rahul Mithal said the company’s international business had staged a strong revival after nearly two years of subdued activity, supported by an overseas order book worth around ₹2,100 crore.

Mithal had also indicated that the turnkey business is expected to contribute 10% to 15% of revenue in FY27, while expressing confidence that RITES’ overall order book would cross the ₹10,000 crore mark through a combination of fresh order wins and stronger execution. The March quarter had already signalled improving business momentum, with revenue rising sharply even as profitability came under pressure due to margin contraction. Against that backdrop, the June-quarter performance points to a more stable operating environment, although margins remain under watch.

RITES is a Government of India enterprise specialising in transport infrastructure consultancy and engineering services. The company operates across railways, metro systems, highways, ports and exports, providing project management, rolling stock, consultancy and engineering solutions in India as well as international markets.
