The stock has surged 47.1% in eight consecutive trade sessions since August 31, 2026. The last time the stock witnessed gains for eight days in a row was from March 2 to March 12, 2026, when it had only risen 6.2%.
This is also the stock’s biggest single-day gain since February 20, 2026, when it had risen 20% as well, after its promoter, Novartis AG, agreed to sell its 70.68% stake in the company to a consortium led by ChrysCapital. The deal involves the sale of 1.74 crore shares to WaveRise Investments, ChrysCapital Fund X and Two Infinity Partners.
After the transaction, Novartis AG would cease to be the promoter, with the acquiring consortium taking control and becoming the new promoters. Novartis India was also to then change its name to remove references to the Novartis group within 120 days of the deal’s completion.
Separately, last month, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories ended its distribution and promotion agreement with Novartis India for select brands, following a change in Novartis India’s controlling shareholding. Dr Reddy’s would continue to commercialise the covered brands until September 30, 2026.
Earlier this week, Novartis India’s board approved the acquisition of the ‘Minipress’ and ‘Minipres’ trademarks in India, along with related intellectual property rights, from Pfizer for a total consideration of ₹1,250 crore. The company signed the necessary agreements with Pfizer, with the signing and closing taking place simultaneously.
According to IQVIA data cited by Novartis India, Minipress XL reported revenue of ₹228.6 crore in the 12 months ended July 2026 and grew at a 6.3% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) over the past four years.
The drug, which contains prazosin, is mainly used to treat high blood pressure and urinary symptoms linked to benign prostatic hyperplasia.
Novartis India shares have surged 36.02% over the past month. More than 53 thousand shares of the company changed hands in intraday trade before the stock hit its upper circuit, with trading volume at 2.77 times its 10-day average.
