Vodafone Idea gets ₹363 crore GST relief as Supreme Court dismisses Centre's plea

The Supreme Court on Monday, September 7, dismissed the Centre’s plea seeking to revive a ₹363 crore GST demand against Vodafone Mobile, providing relief to the telecom company in a tax dispute related to the sale of its tower assets.

The GST authorities had raised a ₹363 crore show-cause notice against Vodafone Mobile in connection with the company’s sale of tower assets to ATC Telecom.

The transaction took place in 2017, before Vodafone Mobile subsequently merged with Vodafone Idea in 2018.

During the proceedings, the Supreme Court questioned how a GST demand could be raised against an entity that had ceased to exist following the merger.
