West Bengal's Annapurna Yojana: Payments underway till Aug 20; who gets the ₹3,000 benefit

Payments under West Bengal’s Annapurna Yojana have started reaching beneficiaries’ bank accounts. The state government has said 1.45 crore eligible women will receive ₹3,000 each under the scheme.

The payments began on August 17 and is scheduled to be completed by August 20. So, if an eligible beneficiary has not received the money yet, the payment may still be in the process of being credited.

Here is what you need to know about the scheme.

What is the Annapurna Yojana?

The Annapurna Yojana is a welfare scheme of the West Bengal government that provides financial assistance to eligible women.

The scheme was part of the BJP’s election manifesto in West Bengal.

How much money will beneficiaries get?

Each eligible woman will receive ₹3,000.

With 1.45 crore women covered under the scheme, the total amount to be disbursed is about ₹4,350 crore.

The money is being transferred to beneficiaries’ bank accounts.

When will the ₹3,000 be credited?

The government began disbursing the money on August 17.

The payments are being made in phases and are expected to continue until August 20.

Therefore, beneficiaries who have not received the amount as of August 19 may still receive it during the ongoing disbursement period.

How many women have been selected?

The government received around 1.80 crore applications for the scheme.

Of these, 1.45 crore women have been included in the beneficiary list.

This means about 35 lakh applications did not make it to the final beneficiary list.

What if the money has not arrived yet?

The government has said there is no need for confusion over the phased disbursement.

Since the payment window runs until August 20, beneficiaries should first allow the process to be completed before assuming that they have been excluded.

If the amount is not credited even after the announced payment period, beneficiaries can check their eligibility and bank-account details through the official channels of the state government.
