Bank of Baroda launches biometric UPI payments, UIDAI face authentication and IoT based payments on bob इ Pay

Bank of Baroda Q4 deposits up 12%, global advances rise 16.2%

State-owned lender Bank of Baroda has announced the introduction of biometric payment authentication, UIDAI-based face authentication for UPI PIN services and Internet of Things (IoT)-based payment capabilities on its UPI application bob इ Pay.

The bank said bob इ Pay is a universal UPI application that can be used by customers of any bank.

Under the new biometric authentication feature, users will be able to authorise UPI transactions of up to ₹5,000 using fingerprint or facial recognition registered on their mobile devices. The feature supports both person-to-person (P2P) and person-to-merchant (P2M) transactions, as well as balance enquiries. Customers can continue using UPI PINs or opt for biometric authentication for transactions.

Bank of Baroda has also introduced Aadhaar-based face authentication for setting or resetting UPI PINs. According to the bank, the feature uses UIDAI face authentication along with bank OTP verification, reducing dependence on debit cards and OTP-based Aadhaar verification processes.

In addition, the lender said it has enabled UPI payments through IoT devices on the bob इ Pay platform. Customers can link supported connected vehicles and smart appliances to the application to make payments directly through these devices.

The bank said the IoT payment feature operates under the delegate payments framework, allowing a primary user to authorise a secondary user or device to carry out transactions within pre-defined limits.
