Maharatna firm Coal India Q1 profit stays flat at ₹8,852 crore despite higher revenue


Maharatna firm Coal India reported a marginal 0.69% year on year (YoY) increase in consolidated profit after tax (PAT) at ₹8,852 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, compared with ₹8,797 crore in the corresponding period last year.

Coal India’s revenue from operations rose 7.8% to ₹46,254.80 crore from ₹42,919.20 crore, while earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) declined 4.1% to ₹12,069 crore from ₹12,588 crore a year earlier. EBITDA margin narrowed to 26.1% from 29.3%.

The company’s total expenses increased 11.9% year on year to ₹36,816.23 crore from ₹32,903.19 crore, even as higher sales helped drive revenue growth during the quarter. Profit before tax stood at ₹11,719 crore, compared with ₹11,776 crore in the corresponding period last year.

Sequential performance

On a quarter-on-quarter basis, consolidated PAT declined 18.9% from ₹10,839 crore in the March quarter, while revenue from operations slipped 0.5% from ₹46,490.03 crore. Total expenses eased 0.8% quarter on quarter to ₹36,816.23 crore from ₹37,107.07 crore. EBITDA margin improved marginally to 26.1% from 25.9% in the preceding quarter.

 

Interim dividend declared

In the regulatory filing, the company also declared an interim dividend of ₹5.50 per equity share for the financial year 2026-27. The company has fixed July 31, 2026 as the record date to determine shareholders eligible for the dividend, which will be paid on or before August 25, 2026.

Shares of the company ended 0.094% higher at ₹427 on the National Stock Exchange (NSE), ahead of the earnings announcement.
